NDP urges Ford to work with feds to deliver promised $97 million for Toronto refugee shelter

TORONTO - Ontario NDP MPP Bhutila Karpoche (Parkdale—High Park), Critic for GTA Issues, issued a statement urging the federal government to fulfill its promise of providing funding of $97 million to support refugee shelters in Toronto:

"We call on the federal government to provide the urgent funding they promised to support refugee shelters in Toronto.

Refugees arriving in Canada require adequate social support and assistance, which would lead to better outcomes in settling into their new homes. Unfortunately, there is no comprehensive plan to ensure that the refugees who come here can successfully resettle here. The federal government must act swiftly and take proper measures to address this ongoing crisis on our streets.

We urge Premier Ford to do everything in his power to work with the federal government, end this crisis, and ensure that those seeking shelter receive the support and assistance they urgently need."
