Del Duca talks child care after jacking up fees for 15 years

TORONTO — NDP Child Care critic Bhutila Karpoche released the following statement in response to Steven Del Duca’s campaign announcement:

“Steven Del Duca and the Wynne Liberals had 15 years to make child care affordable. They chose not to. In fact, Del Duca and the Wynne government jacked up the price of child care again and again until it was the highest in the country.

Del Duca says one thing – but did another.

I hear from moms and dads every day who can’t afford the child care fees the Liberal government left them with. Families are paying thousands of dollars a month — and some are even putting off growing their family because they can’t afford the Ontario day care costs. That breaks my heart.

Andrea Horwath and the NDP strongly believe parents paying child care fees the size of mortgages desperately need instant relief for the costs of child care, for children of all ages. The Ontario NDP will lead the provinces in working with Ottawa to urgently implement a $10 per day, universal, high-quality and not-for-profit child care system.”
